Are you sure I am old enough?

Today these two guys about gave this momma a heart attack! I had to work a clothing show today and was not going to be able to be home to get jp off the bus... so hubby so kindly (ha!) said he would leave school early and be home for the bus. Famous last words "I promise I will be home"! Well, I just had a feeling this morning the afternoon was not going to go as planned... mother intuition I guess you could say. As I am taking Jackson to school I decide to give him a key to our house and have a whole "conversation" about if by chance daddy doesn't make it home this is what you do. As I am telling him all the dos and don'ts he said "Are you sure I am old enough for this?" :) Bless his little heart... I think he was "scared" but I kept reassuring him daddy would be home not to worry it was just "worst case scenario". So about 3:23pm I get call on my cell phone (while I am at the clothing sale... 30 minutes away from home) from our home number and the conversation goes something like this.... JP: "Mommy I am at home and Daddy is not here" ME: "What?" JP: "Yes, I am home and Daddy is not here... I used my key and did just what you told me to do but you said Daddy would be here and he is not" ME: "Are you sure" (honestly i thought they were playing a joke on me b.c I really did not think richard really would be late... little did i know) JP: "Yes, hear listen (he calls out DADDY) and say "see no one answered"... what do i do... By this point I realize he is not kidding and I have a knot in my stomach thinking OMG my 6 year old is home by himself and I am 30 minutes away... I keep talking to him... telling him to get a snack... turn on the tv... trying to reassure him that he was fine and daddy would be home soon... however at the same time I can sense that he is worried and scared. Thankfully soon Jackson says... Daddy's home I hear the garage door"... i made him walk downstairs with the phone and make sure it really was daddy and give the phone to Richard. Which I wanted to say... BUSTED!!!! Needless to say he was probably home for less than 5 minutes before richard got there but for this momma time was standing still and it felt like forever. Although I was a nervous wreck Jackson really did make me proud he handled the situation like a champ... unlocking and re locking the door behind him and calling me right away. It should be noted that I will NEVER let Richard be in charge of being home in time for the bus... if so he has to take a 1/2 day off to insure he makes it home. And NO we have NEVER and WILL NEVER leave our 6 year old home by themselves. Which i why i am even writing this little story b.c i realize this is cyber space and I don't know all of you who read this... just sharing so that next time you see me and I look like I aged 10 years it is b.c I did today!
