Baseball....

Last Night Richard and Jackson had their first baseball game. I am not going to lie... it was rough!
Gone are the days when it was all fun and cute and they did not know if they won or lost and all they cared about was the snack at the end of the game.
Jackson struck out ALL FIVE times he got to bat... let me just say this has NEVER happened and I felt so sorry for him. He hit a home run (almost 2) on Saturdays "practice game". But last night he was so nervous, anxious, excited etc... that he could not even hit the ball... his timing was so off it was TERRIBLE! What made it even worse was that he knew he struck out that many times. We tried to be so positive after the game because he was so down on himself... and the very first thing he told me after the games was "Mommy I struck out all 5 times"... bless his heart. He told Richard after the game "Daddy I am so sorry I struck out all 5 times I got up to bat"... poor guy! I just wanted to cry for him! Hopefully the first game "jitters" are out and he can be back to him normal hitting self on Saturday!
On the flip side he played an awesome game defensively. He is playing short stop and got several out at second base and tagged a runner out as well. We tried to keep talking about what a great game he played in the field so he would "forget" about his strike outs. We told him it happens to the "real" baseball players all the time. I don't think anything we could have said was going to make it any better. He told me today on the way to school "I was going to write about my baseball game in my journal but I don't think I am... it is not fun to write about striking out and loosing"... Poor guy! You know I used to think watching t-ball was the most boring thing in the world... but after last night I think my nerves could take a few t-ball games. I think it is safe to say Jackson got his competitive side from his mommy... i hate to loose... even at tic tac toe... and Jackson was so sad last night when they lost and even more sad that he "played bad".
Here's hoping Saturday is a much better day on the field for him! :-)

  2. I dread when this happens. Right now ours could care less and like you said it is easier that way:)

  3. I know that killed you. I get so nervous when Carter is out there and its only 5 year old t-ball. Yesterday a boy was bullying Carter at 2nd base and pushed his hat off and it took all I had to keep from running out on that field and hitting that boy. As mommies we want to keep them protected and free from hurt. Of course Josephs response, its good for him...ugh. Hope he had a better game Saturday for him and you :)
