March 15, 2012: Brylee's Surgery

Today was the big day!!! Brylee said good bye to Mr. Appendix!!!! We had to be at the hospital at 6:30am and then they took her back to surgery about 8:30am. She was very nervous and anytime any doctor, nurse, or hospital personnel walked into the room she started crying. It did not take them long to realize that Brylee needed something to take the edge off. They brought her some "happy juice" in and gave it to her and she was starting to relax when they came to get her for surgery. At least she got in the bed so they could wheel her into the OR before the "happy juice" she was not getting out of my lap and certainly NOT in that bed! We were able to walk with her until she went to the OR double doors and then they kept on pushing her and we stopped. She whined a little bit more or less an "ugh" but thankfully she was not crying or screaming my name... thank the Lord... I prayed hard for that all week! I did not even cry when she went off... I was pretty proud of myself! She was in surgery for about 2 hours. They called us after about an hour and a half and gave us an update. They told us she was doing great but it was a little more invasive than they thought it would be. The appendix had attached to her abdominal wall so they had to get it loose and then take it out. Other than that; it all went great! Close to 10:30am the doctor came out and told us she was done and would be in recovery for about an hour and they would take us to a room and then bring her up. I can not say enough great things about her doctor. He actually showed some great bed side manner today which is hard to come by these days with doctors. I was very thankful! Another answer to prayer! She came up to the room about noon. All the nurses were really sweet when they brought her up and told us she did great in recovery. I was worried she was going to be really upset when she woke up since she was so worked up when she went to sleep. I was also worried that all the meds would make her sick. But thankfully neither of those happened. She pretty much slept for the next few hours. I guess I would have too if I had all the drugs she had... seriously 15 drugs were given to her... 15!!!! She perked up around 2ish and started drinking some fluids. A little while later she started complaining of her stomach hurting... then she got sick! :( She barfed up the little bit of liquids she had in her. But after she barfed she said she felt so much better and she has done great the rest of the day and night! As a matter of fact, she is doing a little too well! :) She has been complaining that she is hungry ALL.AFTERNOON.AND.NIGHT!!!!!! She can't have any food until tomorrow; she can only have clear liquids. She finally complained enough that they let her have some chicken broth, beef broth, and jello. She is eating them out of house and home! She has been up pretty much most of the afternoon and evening. She has walked the halls numerous times. She even played school with PJ Dangels (her monkey). All the nurses and doctors are amazed at how good she is doing! I just hope she settles down soon and goes to sleep! :) And does not over do it! I hope I am not speaking too soon but these nurses and doctors were not lying when they said this would be a walk in the park compared to what we have been through and they were not kidding! This is NOTHING compared to last time! We are on the same floor we were on last time and it was fun to see everyone again! They were very pleased with how well she was doing b.c they have seen her at her sickest! They, like us, can appreciate a happy healthy ending! We truly have so much to be thankful for! She has done marvelous!!! We are so so so thankful for answered prayers! I am so thankful the Great Physician took such good care of my baby today! I am continuing to pray that she does well tonight and tomorrow! We would love to go home tomorrow! Lord willing! :)
Not the greatest picture but you can see she is up this afternoon!
Thank you all so so so much for all your prayers, calls, texts, facebook comments, emails, etc... we appreciate you all so much! We could feel your prayers this morning and I am so thankful for so many answered prayers!!! Giving God ALL the Glory!
I feel like many of you have walked this long road with us the last 2 months and we are very thankful this chapter in our lives is coming to a close! We are looking at a few more weeks of recovery before Brylee can get back to her normal activities but we are definitely headed in the right direction!
All Our Love!!!!!
Praying for Brylee!!!
